The influence of the nearby urban centers of Lansing and East Lansing is apparent in the Okemos area. In our real estate system, we group everything by school district, so “Okemos” actually includes parts of Meridian Township and Williamstown Township. Speaking of school districts, Okemos is one of the best. Recently, Okemos placed #9 out of 885 high schools in Michigan in a US News Research Poll. The study focused on student/teacher ratios, college readiness, and math and reading proficiency. All that fabulous-ness comes at a price, however, as Okemos has the highest average sales price of any area in the Greater Lansing region. Located close to shopping centers and with a variety of restaurants, and Whole Foods. Okemos is a great option for those looking for unparalleled schools and a close location to all urban amenities.
Okemos is not technically a town, but rather a school district and post office located mostly in Meridian Township. This close-knit community is located just east of MSU’s campus and boasts some of the area’s highest rated schools. There are also two Montessori schools in the Okemos area, one which is part of the public school district. Correspondingly, Okemos also boasts the areas highest average sales price, which was $315,820 at the end of the 2nd quarter in 2018. This was down 1.9% from the same time period the previous year.
