Drive around this charming town and you will be keenly aware of the community pride everywhere. Many yards boast signs that claim “Proud to be a Comet!” a shout out to the local schools. The Grand Ledge School District is one of the largest in the State of Michigan and actually encompasses several smaller towns and villages, including Eagle, Wacousta, and parts of Mulliken and Delta Township. There are elementary schools throughout the area, but they all feed into one large high school near Downtown Grand Ledge.
Downtown Grand Ledge is as quaint as they come, with older buildings and shops near the river giving way to stunning Victorian homes along Jefferson, the main road into town. Downtown you will find many small shops, including several restaurants. Try the famous Cugino’s deep dish pizza! and Flour Child’s cookies that are almost too pretty to eat. There is also a classic old movie theater with one screen on the main road called The Sun Theater that sells tickets for $4! Don’t miss Yankee Doodle Days in the summer, the local festival, complete with a parade and other activities.
